The Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre will host its 5th annual Girrin-da Guri Artist in Residence program in October 2026, offering First Nations artists from across New South Wales a unique opportunity to develop their practice in a culturally grounded creative environment.
Established in 1987, Yarrawarra is a First Nations–run not-for-profit cultural centre dedicated to preserving and promoting Aboriginal arts, culture, and knowledge through community engagement and creative exchange.
Supported by Create NSW, the residency provides artists with access to facilities including a pottery studio, painting workshop, cultural heritage collections, and nearby coastal sites. The program is rooted in Gumbaynggirr cultural knowledge and supports both artistic development and community engagement.
The residency runs for 10–14 days (either as a continuous block or across weekends). Artists receive a weekly stipend to support travel, materials, and living costs, along with accommodation at the on-site Seafoam Cottage, which recently received recognition in the Booking.com Traveller Review Awards 2026.
As part of the program, each artist will deliver a public-facing activity such as a workshop, talk, performance, or demonstration. The residency culminates in participation in a joint exhibition with the 2027 All Fired Up exhibition.
Expressions of interest are open to First Nations artists living in NSW who can commit to the residency and community engagement requirements.
