Jessika Spencer , from the sandhills in Narrungdera, Wiradjuri Country, is based in Canberra on Ngunnawal, Ngambri Country and delights in sharing her gift of weaving and was the 2024 Girrinda Guri artist in residence at the bespoke ‘Seafoam Cottage’ one of Corindi Beach’s best holiday accommodations.
The Girrin-da Guri Artist in Residence is a visual arts program generously supported by Create NSW, which caters for First Nations artists wishing to immerse and access a fully equipped pottery studio, painting workshop space, cultural heritage museum, coastal sites & cultural support. As part of the professional development, the artist is offered the opportunity to return the following year and exhibit art and deliver various workshops. Jess returns with Gadhang Ngurambang (Ocean Country) from October 5 – November 30, 2025, fusing traditional and contemporary fibre art techniques.
Drawn to slow, ancestral processes, Jess’s artistic expression is hands-on, with Ancestral roots tracing back to Western NSW, along the Murrumbidgee River. Sustainability, land care, and cultural heritage are at the heart of Jessika’s practice, using materials that are biodegradable and respectfully gathered from Country. Empowerment and self-determination underpin each work as an act of cultural strength and personal sovereignty
